بعضي وقتها كه در جستجوي چيزي هستيم، آنقدر درگير جزئيات و پيروي از قوائد و اصول مي‌شويم كه اصل مطلب را فراموش مي‌كنيم و تمام انرژي خودمون رو صرف درك جزئياتي مي‌كنيم كه شايد آنقدر هم كه فكر مي‌كرديم حياتي و ضروري نبوده‌اند. در حقيقت اگر با خودمون كمي صادق باشيم و مسائل رو پيچيده نكنيم خواهيم ديد كه خانة دوست واقعاً در چند قدمي ما قرار داشته و اين خود ما بوديم كه با پيچيده كردن مسئله رسيدن به اون رو تقريباً ناممكن ساخته بوديم

مدت زيادي است كه عكسهاي ماكروي گل و برگ روي سايت گذاشتم و احساس مي‌كنم كه همه ديگه حالشون از اين عكسها بهم خورده. راستش رو بگم خودم هم ديگه خسته شده بودم بنابراين تصميم گرفتم يك آب و جاروي اساسي بكنم تا هم تغيير ذائقه‌اي باشه براي دوستاني كه گهگاه به حجره من سري مي‌زنند و هم بهانه‌اي باشه براي خودم كه شايد تنبلي رو كنار بگذارم و با سرعت بيشتري سايت رو به روز كنم. تا ببينيم و تعريف كنيم. براي روزهاي آينده مجموعه‌اي از عكسهاي مراسم هالوويين امسال رو انتخاب كردم كه بنظرم ديدنشون خالي از لطف نيست

در سالهاي اخير به بركت تغيير و تحولاتي كه در كشور رخ داده مراسم عزاداري امام حسين هم مثل خيلي چيزهاي ديگرمتحول شده و بيشتر به عرصه‌اي براي جبران محدوديت‌هاي اجتماعي بدل شده تا زمينه‌اي براي درك و فهم فلسفه قيام عاشورا، فلسفه‌اي كه آزادگي را فراتر از هرچيز ديگر مي‌بيند حتي دين‌داري. حدود ١٥ سالي ميشه كه از اين مراسم در نقاط مختلف شهر تهران عكاسي ميكنم و به همين دليل تغييراتي كه در اين مراسم رخ داده برام خيلي واضح و آشكار هستش. جايگزيني خواندن بحر طويل در وصف واقعه عاشورا با حسين حسين گفتن با ريتم تكنو در نوحه ها، جايگزيني شله زرد و شربت آبليموي نذري با پيتزا و نوشابه ، جايگزيني ضرب‌آهنگ سنج و طبل با دامبول ديمبول ارگ و هزار چيز ديگر. خب بالاخره آدمي خواهان پيشرفته! چه بهتر كه در حكومتي كه امام حسين الگوي اونه به بهانه عاشورا در خيابان ارگ نواخته بشه تا بر عليه بي عدالتي فرياد زده بشه، اينطوري درد سر همه كمتره . خيلي دلم ميخواست بدونم كه اگر محتشم كاشاني الآن زنده بود مرثيه عاشورا را چگونه مي‌سرود

شهر سانفرانسيسكو در شب. اين منظره‌اي است كه هر شب زندانيان زندان آلكاتراس ميديدند. يكي از همان زندانيان مي‌گفت كه بدترين چيز در مورد زندان آلكاتراس اين بود كه هر لحظه آزادي رو به ياد شما مي‌آورد. در حقيقت شما هميشه در چند قدمي آزادي قرار داريد ولي از اون بي بهره هستيد و مجبوريد كه فقط به اون نگاه كنيد. احساس غريبي است

مراسم هلووين كه هر ساله در آخرين شب ماه سپتامبر برگزار ميشه از آن دسته رخدادهاي فرهنگي است كه در غرب براي همه و به ويژه براي بچه‌ها از جاذبه زيادي داره. در اين شب بچه‌ها با پوشش‌هاي عجيب و غريب در شهر راه مي‌افتند و در خانه‌ها را براي گرفتن شيريني، شكلات و ميوه ميزنند، چيزي شبيه قاشق زني خودمون. ريشه اين مراسم بر ميگرده به قرن هجدهم ميلادي كه در كشورهايي چون ايرلند، انگليس و اسكاتلند كه روزي را به عنوان روز تمام قديسين نامگذاري كرده بودند و در شب قبل از اين روز مراسم هاووين را برگزار مي‌كردند. با گذشت زمان تغييراتي در اين مراسم ايجاد شد و البته با راه يافتن اين فرهنگ به آمريكا چهره اين مراسم به طور كلي دستخوش تغييراتي اساسي شد. به هر حال عكسهايي رو كه در روزهاي آينده خواهيد ديد (البته اگر بلاگر بازي در نياره) از مراسم شب هلووين در هاليوود گرفتم. راستش رو بگم تا حالا اين همه آدم خل و چل يكجا نديده بودم

سلام بر همه و يك خبر، چهارشنبه اين هفته يك نمايشگاه بامزه در سعادت آباد برگزار ميشه. نمايشگاهي از يك مجموعه كاريكاتور كه ميشه اونها رو پوشيد. برگزار كننده و كاريكاتوريست اين نمايشگاه هم كسي نيست جز برادرم، ارتا شريفي، كه مدتي است با جديت تمام تلاش ميكنه كه ديگه جدي نباشه تا بتونه دوباره شيطنت‌هاي دوران كودكي رو در درونش زنده كنه. خلاصه اگر هنوز حوصله خنديدن داريد سري به اين نمايشگاه بزنيد

با وجود اينكه عكسهاي زيادي را براي وبلاگ آماده كردم و تقريباً هر جا كه ميرم دوربينم رو هم با خودم ميبرم و عكاسي ميكنم ولي مجبورم كه با فاصله زماني به نسبت زياد وبلاگ رو به روز كنم. صرفنظر از واقعيتي به‌نام ”تنبلي“، بايد اعتراف كنم كه مشكل اصلي من، نوشتن مطلب در مورد عكسهاست. راستش رو بخواهيد اكر بلد بودم زياد بنويسم و زياد حرف بزنم ديگر لزومي نداشت كه براي ديدگاه‌ها و نگرشم به محيط اطراف به عكاسي پناه ببرم. از طرفي دوست ندارم به بهانه به‌روز نگه داشتن وبلاگ رفع تكليف كنم و همينطور عكسهاي بدون شرح رو ي سايت بگذارم. به هر حال از اين بهانه‌ها كه بگذريم اين عكس رو در جزيره هرمز و در معدن اكسيد آهن گرفتم. اين عكس در حقيقت نمايي نزديك از آبي است كه از درون تودة نمك خارج ميشه و به همراه خودش علاوه بر نمك و گچ محلول، اكسيد آهن رو هم به همراه مياره و در طول مسير ته نشين ميكنه. راستي كه مادر طبيعت عجب دست هنرمندي داره
This picture is also taken from Hormuz Island in Persian Gulf, which shows how the water inside of the salt dome carries out the iron oxide and deposits it along the way. This water also carries various soluble minerals and makes different crystals along its way. To me, this is the place which Art and Science meet, thanks to the mother nature.

It is not surprising if you see too many natural phenomena in the United States, because it is almost a continent with an area more than 9.5 square kilometers. But it is amazing to see many different environments and phenomena gathering in an area as big as 1/6 of United States. My homeland, Iran, is a land which holds too many geological wonders as far as other natural characteristics. I took this picture from Hormuz Island in Persian Gulf which shows the unique aggregate of gypsum. Geologically speaking, this island is a salt dome and is an active geological environment.

This island is also known for its high quality iron oxide deposit which is used in the world's finest cosmetic products.

El Capitan

El Capitan is a 3,000 foot vertical rock formation in Yosemite Valley and Yosemite National Park. It is one of the most popular monoliths with rock climbers in the world.
The name "El Capitan" was a translation from the Native American name "To-to-kon oo-lah", which was named after "To-to-kon", a Paiute chief of the natives of the area.
The top of El Capitan can be reached by hiking out of Yosemite Valley on the trail next to Yosemite Falls, then proceeding west. For climbers, the challenge is to climb up the sheer granite face; there are dozens of named climbing routes, all of them long and difficult.
The most prominent part of El Capitan, the "Nose", was first climbed in 1958 by Warren J Harding, Wayne Merry and George Whitmore after 47 days of actual climbing spread over seventeen months. The team used rope, pitons and expansion bolts to make it to the top, using aid climbing much of the way. The route was repeated in 1960 by Royal Robbins, Joe Fitschen, Chuck Pratt and Tom Frost, who took seven days. The first ascent of the Nose in one day was accomplished in 1975 by John Long, Jim Bridwell and Billy Westbay.
ديواره ال كاپيتان در واقع از يك كيلومتر گرانيت يكپارچه تشكيل شده و از يكي از معروفترين ديواره‌هاي سنگي جهان محسوب ميشه و بدليل سختي صعود در بين سنگ نوردان از محبوبيت خاصي برخوردار هستش. نام اين كوه، ترجمه واژه سرخپوستي ” تو-تو-كان اوو-لا “مي‌باشد كه در حقيقت از نام رئيس بزرگ سرخپوستان ناحيه (تو-تو-كان) گرفته شده است. براي رسيدن به بالاي اين ديواره مي‌توان از طريق دهكده يوسميتي و ازمسير كوهپيمايي واقع در كنار آبشار يوسميتي اقدام كرد و سپس به سوي غرب ادامه داد ويا اينكه يك كيلومتر ديواره عمودي را انتخاب نمود كه در اين حالت مسيرهاي فراواني براي صعود وجود دارند كه البته همگي داراي درجه سختي بالا مي‌باشند. شاخص‌ترين بخش ديواره ال كاپيتان نخستين بار در سال ١٩٥٨ ميلادي توسط وارن هاردينگ و همنوردانش پس از ٤٧ روز تلاش صعود شد. درسال ١٩٦٠ اين مسير در طي دو هفته توسط رويال رابينز و همنوردانش صعود شد و اولين صعود يك روزه ديواره نيزدر سال ١٩٧٥ توسط جان لانك و همنوردانش به ثبت رسيد

پارك ملي يوسميتي در ايالت كاليفرنيا يكي از مكانهاي رؤيايي براي زمين‌شناسان محسوب ميشه. ارتفاعات اين پارك ‌در حقيقت بخشي از رشته كوه ”سي‌يرا“ است كه غالباً از توده‌هاي بك‌پارچه گرانيتي تشكيل شده‌اند. معروفترين ديواره سنگي دنيا (ديواره ال كاپيتان) و همچنين پنجمين آبشار بلند دنيا در اين پارك واقع شده است. ديواره ال كاپيتان يك ديواره گرانيتي مريوط به دوران كرتاسه است كه ١٠٠٠ مترطول دارد. صخره‌هاي گرانيتي وكاج‌هاي سر به فلك كشيده از مناظر منحصر به فرد اين پارك محسوب مي‌شوند. افسوس كه مدت كوتاهي در اين منطقه بودم ولي از همين حالا براي يك هفته كوهنوردي و راهپيمايي در يوسميتي برنامه ريزي كردم, به اميد خدا در بهار آينده

مدتي است با وجود اينكه مجموعه عكسهاي زيادي رو براي وبلاگ آماده كردم ولي عكس مناسبي را كه با اوضاع و احوال روحيم متناسب باشه پيدا نمي‌كردم و به همين دليل شما هر بار همون عكسهاي گذشته رو مي‌ديديد. ديروز وقتي براي انجام كار نظارت حفاري رفته بودم اين گل رو ديدم و بالاخره اون چيزي رو كه دنبالش بودم پيدا كردم. البته هنوز هم ”از ديو و دد ملولم و انسانم آرزوست”ولي به اميد يافتن گرد جهان مي‌گردم

Different Aspects, New Findings

It started when I was at high-school, I mean looking to the certain topic from different aspects. At that time I was practicing to think and express my idea about certain things from totally different aspects, actually this was the way that is expected by our geometry, calculus and algebra teachers, to look for different ways to solve a certain problem. Of course this caused lots of discussion between the students. After a while I start asking myself, why am I defending my method of problem solving in a scientific discussion? So I started to think what if I put myself in the people’s shoes and look at the problem as they look and try to criticize myself? This is how I ended up with this idea in my life which “the way I am looking into the things is not necessarily the best one, so I need to seek more for the best possible way”. In many cases just by making a very little change in the way of looking you will be able to make a big difference. The following pictures are the proof to the above ideology, they have been taken from the same subjects at the nearly same time with the same equipment but with the bit of change in the way of looking. It would be highly appreciated if you kindly tell me what do you think.

هروقت كه به طبيعت نگاه مي‌كنم چيزي به‌جز نظم نمي‌بينم و هميشه ياد اين فراز از فلسفه شيعه ميافتم كه نظم دليل وجود عدل است چرا كه از ديدگاه اين فلسفه عدل يعني قرار دادن هر چيزي در جاي صحيح خودش كه همان مصداق وجود نظم است. حالا چرا اين ارتباط از ياد من نمي‌رود دلايل متعددي دارد از جمله صرف سالهاي زياد در طبيعت و تلاش براي درك اصول حاكم بر نظام طبيعي، سروكار داشتن با پديده‌هاي زمين شناسي در مقياسهاي متفاوت،ارتباطات اجتماعي و البته مصاحبه‌اي كه در سال ١٣٧٢ براي بورسيه شدن در وزارت معادن و فلزات داشتم . در آن مصاحبه از من خواسته شد تا عدل را از ديدگاه شيعه تعريف كنم و من هم تعريف فقهي بالا را ارائه كردم البته همانگونه كه در كتب فقهي آمده”وََضَع ‍شيئيٌ علي موضع“ ولي ظاهراً يا اين تعريف با مزاق آقايان سازگار نبود و يا اينكه دوستان از فقه شيعه اطلاعي نداشتند و يا اينكه اصولاً عدالت برايشان تعريف نشده بود چون من در اون مصاحبه كزايي به دليل بي اطلاعي ازاصول فقهي قبول نشدم ! باز جاي شكرش باقي بود كه به اين بهانه قبول نشدم

It is hard to write about a topic which you don’t know much about it and it is harder to start something very different from what you used to do. But I also believe that without hard working, struggle and learning from your mistakes you won’t be able to achieve something pure, that’s true, no pain no gain. So I start to change my vision and try something different, something that may seems casual for good photographers but looks new to me because I never tried it before. On the other hand I do believe that a photographer not only should see more than the other people but also he should have a different way of looking. This is why I felt that I need some changes in my vision and I hope this will help me to see the world much nicer than before. I also tried to keep my own way of taking picture. This does not mean that I am doing something extraordinary but I still push myself to “take a picture” instead of “making a picture”. This is the way that I think leads me to see the world without artificiality, to feel the nature very close and to understand it better. This also applies to the editing and post processing. What you are seeing (or you may have seen before on this blog) is exactly what I’ve got on my camera and is not digitally edited. Instead of presenting extraordinary pictures, I would like to be honest with you guys and share the truth. The pictures you are going to see in the coming posts are the way I started looking in nature. Please be honest and share your thoughts with me.
نوشتن درباره مطلبي كه از اون اطلاعات درستي نداري خيلي سخته و از اون مشكلتر آغاز شيوه‌اي جديد و متفاوت با راه و روشي است كه قبلاً داشتي. اما هميشه اعتقاد داشتم كه بدون تلاش، سخت‌كوشي و درس گرفتن از اشتباهات پيشين نمي‌توان به تعالي دست يافت يا به قول معلمين انشا ”نابرده رنج گنج ميسر نمي‌شود“. به همين دليل سعي كردم ديدگاهم رو نسبت به چيزهايي كه مي‌بينم تغيير بدم و به محيط اطراف كمي متفاوت نگاه كنم. البته اين نوع نگاه شايد براي بسياري از عكاسان كاركشته پيش‌پا افتاده به نظر بياد ولي براي من جديد محسوب ميشه چون قبلاً امتحانش نكرده بودم. به‌طوركلي من عقيده دارم كه يك عكاس نه تنها بايد از مردم عادي بيشتر ببينه بلكه بايد با شيوه‌هاي گوناگوني به اطرافش نگاه كنه. به همين دليل تصميم گرفتم تا با نگاهي متفاوت به اطراف بنگرم و اميدوارم كه اين تغيير به من كمك كنه تا دنياي اطراف رو زيباتر ببينم. در اين رابطه من همچنان تلاش كردم تا از نظر تكنيكي شيوه سابق عكاسيم رو حفظ كنم و البته منظورم اين نيست كه من كار خارق‌العاده‌اي انجام مي‌دم ولي هنوز خودم رو مقيد مي‌دونم به گرفتن عكس، نه ساختن اون. اين شيوه‌اي هستش كه من رو راهنمايي ميكنه تا دنياي اطرافم رو بدون دخل و تصرف ببينم، طبيعت رو از نزديك لمس كنم و اون رو بهتر بفهمم. اين شيوه در مورد چاپ و ارائه عكس هم صدق ميكنه، يعني تمام عكسهايي رو كه مي‌بينيد (و يا در گذشته روي اين بلاگ تماشا كرديد) دقيقاً همون چيزي هستند كه من با دوربين ثبت كردم و هيچ دخل وتصرف ديجيتالي در اونها نشده. در واقع به‌جاي ارائه تصاويرخارق‌العاده ترجيح دادم با شما صادق باشم و تنها حقيقت رو نشان بدم. خواهش مي‌كنم كه شما هم با من صادق باشيد و برام بنويسيد كه چي فكر مي‌كنيد

Dear all, it has been a long time since my last post and I’m sure you guys are thinking of how lazy I am. But the truth is I moved to Glendale to start a new job and was involved with all that struggles for finding a descent apartment, taking my stuff from Sacramento to Glendale, buy some furniture and have my internet service and …. So I think I have enough excuses for being lazy to post some new pictures! Anyhow, I am settle down and hope to be able to keep my blog updated.
This picture has been taken many years ago when I just started to take pictures from the leaves. To take this one I used Nikkor 50mm lens (my favorite lens) with my favorite aperture (f8). I always use f8 when I want to reach the reasonable clarity and sharpness because in most lenses with maximum aperture of f22, the optimum aperture which gives you the best result is usually f8. Using Agfa ULTRA negative (ASA50) gave me exactly what I was looking for. This negative (including all Agfa professional series) has 9 sensitive layers plus one UV coating which gives you the opportunity to not use UV filter on your lens and of course this allows much more transparency and clarity in the picture because the amount of light which passes through your lens will not decrease by attaching filters on the lens.

مي‌دونم از آخرين عكسي كه روي سايت گذاشتم زمان زيادي مي‌گذرد و از اينكه هنوز به سايت من سر مي‌زنيد ممنونم ولي راستش رو بخواهيد درگير كارهاي جابجايي و شروع كار جديدم در شهر ”گلن ديل“ بودم و نتونستم سايت رو به روز كنم، بهانه‌هاي خوبي براي توجيه تنبلي بودند مگه نه؟ حالا كمي جا افتادم و سرويس اينترنتم هم تازه وصل شده و اميدوارم كه بتونم سايت رو به روز نگه دارم اين عكس رو سالها پيش وقتي تازه عكاسي از برگها رو شروع كرده بودم گرفتم. براي عكاسي از لنز محبوبم يعني لنز نرمال ٥٠ ميليمتري نيكون و ديافراگم مورد علاقه‌ام يعني ديافراگم ٨ استفاده كردم. معمولاً براي سيدن به بهترين كيفيت و بالاترين وضوح از اين ديافراگم (ديافراگم اپتيمم) استفاده مي‌كنم. در اغلب لنزهايي كه داراي ديافراگم حداكثر ٢٢ هستند، ديافراگم اپتيمم ٨ مي‌باشد. براي نتيجه بهتر از نگاتيو آگفا اولترا استفاده كردم. نگاتيوهاي سري پروفشنال آگفا به دليل داشتن ٩ لاية حساس به نور و يك پوشش يو وي شفافيت فوق‌العاده‌اي به تصوير ميدهند به ويژه كه با وجود پوشش يو وي برروي نگاتيو ديگر نيازي به استفاده فيلتر نيست و به همين سبب ميزان نور رسيده به نگاتيو و به تبع آن شفافيت تصوير هم افزايش پيدا مي‌كند

Well, I’m still alive and try to manage my new life in Los Angeles and this is the main reason that I couldn’t upload new posts. Any how, this picture has been taken six years ago when I was joining a program at Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. Near the ICTP complex and beside the coast of Adriatic Sea, there is a beautiful castle which is called the Miamare Castle. This picture is a small part of the stair’s balustrade. I used 28-200mm Nikkor zoom lens, circular polarizing filter, and Agfa Optima professional (ASA 50).

Usually I never leave home without my camera and this is why my friends telling that I am putting my camera on. I left home at 3:30 am for a hike and have my Nikon EM and 50mm Nikkor lens with me. It was raining all day and just after I headed back, the rain has stopped and there you go, washed leaves, fresh bushes and trees, pine smell and I’ve got the scent of the spring sitting right in front of me.

Most of you may have this experience before, being in the right place at the wrong time, I mean finding a great subject but suffering from not having a good light. This is exactly what I’ve got in most of the time while I’m doing my field works. Usually I won’t be able to plan for a good timing for taking picture because I have to finish my geological field investigation first and this means I am missing the best time of the day. It becomes even worst if I work in the cloudy weather. But if you just break the basics and try to spend much more time on the subject rather than expecting good natural condition in the field, you will be able to make some good pictures even in poor lighting condition. I took this picture in a small canebrake near the Gorgan Bay. It was 6pm and the weather was cloudy, I just try to use my imagination to make a picture with blur background and put the soft focus on the first plan regardless of not having too much color. I am satisfied with the result.
By the way, you won’t see new posts for a while because I am moving and have no access to internet until I settle down.
حتماً براي شما هم بسيار اتفاق افتاده كه در زمان نامناسب به موضوعي جذاب براي عكاسي برخورد كرده باشيد، يعني وقتي كه بدترين شرايط نوري ممكن براي عكاسي فراهم باشه. اين همون شرايطي هستش كه من هميشه در هنگام انجام كار زمين‌شناسي با اون مواجه هستم. در هنگام كار معمولاً امكان برنامه ريزي براي عكاسي در زمان مناسب وجود نداره و تازه اگر هوا ابري باشه كه ديگه اوضاع بدتر هم ميشه. اما اگر خيلي به اصول اوليه در رابطه با نور مناسب توجه نكنيم و بجاي توقع شرايط محيطي مناسب، زمان بيشتري را براي درك سوژه صرف كنيم به نتايج جالب توجهي دست خواهيم يافت. اين عكس رو در يكي از نيزارهاي اطراف خليج گرگان گرفتم در ساعت شش عصر يك روز ابري. تلاش كردم با استفاده از كمي تخيل تصويري با پس زمينه محو و پيش زمينه‌اي نه چندان واضح ايجاد كنم بدون اينكه رنگ نقشي اساسي در تصوير بازي كند. از نتيجه كار راضي هستم . راستي تا چند وقتي نميتونم عكس جديد پست كنم چون در حال اسباب كشي هستم و تا چند وفتي به اينترنت دسترسي ندارم

For taking this picture, I attached the circular polarizing filter to my 100mm Nikkor lens and used Konica ASA 800 as a medium. The noise is reduced using Neat Image software and I’m satisfied with the result.

I would like to change the taste little bit and switch to my leaves and sticks series. I took this picture in Khoor va Biabanak date farm in Central Iran. The palm leaves and blue sky are really turning me on to shot some abstract pictures. Here is one of them that I took using circular polarizing filter on my Nikkor 100 mm and Agfa optima negative.

Sufis’ Dance or SAMAA is the ultimate excitement in sacred chant and provide some solitude for Sufis. “Solitude in the Crowd” is one of the basic principles of Sufism which means seclusion, both external and internal. External seclusion requires the seeker to be away from people, staying by himself and spending his time in the remembrance of God. This helps in gaining control over sensual perceptions and reaching the state of internal seclusion. The internal seclusion means whether amidst a crowd, walking or doing anything else, one should constantly have his mind attuned to the Almighty. This is the state of Sufi adept that they remain constantly in the Presence of the Almighty. To read more click here.

Combined Drumming

The chant leads to its glorious moment by combined drumming. Usually the goblet drums which accompany Daf are twin drum (Dou Tabl) and Taas. These two drums are played by leather sticks and have plangent tone which usually played during the spiritual Sufi’s dance (SAMAA). Actually these two goblet drums are controlled the rhythms and synchronized the group of Daf players with the mentor while their players also maintain tuned with the mentor. In the picture above a person holding “Dou Table” while the other one playing and the Daf player is standing in background.
به نظر من نقطه اوج مراسم سماع زمانيست كه دف به همراه دوطبل و يا طاس نواخته مي‌شود. اين سازها داراي كاسه‌اي از جنس برنج هستند و با تسمه‌هايي از جنس چرم فشرده نواخته مي‌شوند و ازاين‌رو طنين بسيار زيادي دارند. در طول مراسم سماع اين سازها نقش هماهنگ كننده گروه دف نوازان را به عهده داشته و با فرمان شخص مياندار ريتم‌ را تغيير مي‌دهند. در عكس بالا فردي يك دو طبل را در دست دارد و ديگري مي‌نوازد، دف‌نوازان نيز در پشت ديده مي‌شوند

Group Drumming

Music is mixed with the Kurds’ daily life; most of them play Daf and nearly all of them can sing their special song classes (Hauoreh and Siyah Chamaneh). During the sacred chants many people played Daf together in great harmony. It is exciting to know that they just start playing together without prior group practicing and in many cases they barely know each other. They synchronized their heart with the rhythm and rest will be synchronized automatically. They also switch between rhythms as the mentor switches, because the rhythms should be played in a certain order during the chant. Time of passage between the rhythms is defined by the mentor based on the situation and based on the emotional feeling of the group.

Although all of the people are very kind to me during my stay in the village but I was considered as a city boy from Tehran for the first hours. A boy with camera and tape recorder who wants to see the mad men of god and the sacred chant! After finishing the first round of the chant, my friend, Rahim asked me to play Daf with him. I started playing and tried to synchronize myself with him. We played for fifteen minutes switching between the Sufi rhythms. When we finished, my host asked me to play a solo and I played a combination of Sufi rhythms and some modern ones as smoothly as possible. During my performance, I tried to use their skills and also not to be bragged. After my solo has finished, Arash was not a city boy any more, I was one of them. Playing among them not only increased my knowledge about the rhythms and playing skills, but also helped me to get closed to whole community. با وجود همه احترام و محبتي كه مردم در حق من روا مي‌داشتند ولي در ساعات اوليه ورودم به اين روستا همه به من به عنوان يك بچه شهري از تهران اومده نگاه مي‌كردند كه با دوربين و ضبط صوتش راه افتاده تا مراسم سماع دراويش را ببيند. بعد از اينكه دور اول دعا خواني و سماع تمام شد، دوستم رحيم از من خواست تا با او همنوازي كنم. من و رحيم حدود ١٥ دقيقه دف زديم و در تمام مدت من سعي مي‌كردم تا خودم را با او هماهنگ كنم به ويژه كه مجبور بودم به همراه او چندين بار ريتمهاي مختلف را اجرا كنم. پس از اينكه دف نوازي تمام شد، ميزبان ما از من خواست تا كمي تكنوازي كنم، من هم قطعه‌اي مركب از ريتمهاي خانقاهي و ريتمهاي نوين اجرا كردم و تلاش كردم تا علاوه بر استفاده از تكنيكهاي دف نوازي آنها از هر گونه خودنمايي نيز بپرهيزم. بعد از اينكه نواختنم تمام شد جمع براي من صلوات فرستاد. فهميدم كه ديگه آرش يك بچه شهري نيست و جزئي از آنها شده. همراهي در دف نوازي با ايشان نه تنها اطلاعات زيادي را در رابطه با ريتمهاي خانقاهي و تكنيكهاي مختلف دف نوازي در اختيار من قرار داد بلكه سبب هرچه نزديكتر شدن من به مردم اين خطه از كشورم شد. در تصوير بالا رحيم را در حين نواختن دف و اداي ذكر مي‌بينيد. در صورت تمايل به شنيدن برخي از اين ريتمها اينجا را كليك كنيد

Calling and Gathering

To visit my friend and also to buy a DAF (Persian frame drum) I planed to spend one day and one night in Sanandaj (capital of Kurdistan province). When I got there, I called my friend and asked him if he knows someone to help me buying high quality Daf. He introduced me to a person called Rahim, who is playing Daf and conducting the sacred chants. We went to couples of music shops and he was looking for a well made Daf with great sound, at that time he didn’t know that I was playing this instrument for many years. Finally we came out with four hand-made Daf with great sound, which have been signed by the artist who made them. In the way home I asked Rahim if there is any chant in the hermitage that I can join. He replied, since our doyen (they call it Sheikh) has just returned, after living outside the country for a long period, we are about to go to visit him and there is no chant in Sanandaj, but if you like, you can join us. I was like WOOW, what a great chance. We went to the small village near Sanandaj and this was the beginning of my adventure. I spent nearly a week among them (totally forget about my job and research project in Tehran) and each night I was hosted by different people who didn’t even know my name. Actually this is quite normal in Iran, especially when you visiting suburbs and countryside. Each time Rahim and I walked to the house of our host, he start playing Daf and welcoming us by singing songs.
The sacred chants are starting by singing some poems from Rumi and the person who is singing the poem, calls the other to join the chant (first photo), actually this is some kind of announcement for the others to know the chant is about to start. The group that I’ve met is practicing the specific training line in Sufism which is called Tariqat-e Qaderi. Each person who joins the chant start singing poems in harmony with the one is currently singing by the other person (second picture). After a while you are surrounded by the great music and the most amazing thing is they are all ordinary people, but they do know music by their hearts and have a great feeling about music and literature.

Journey to Beyond

Five years a go I had a wonderful trip to the western part of Iran, namely Kurdestan, to buy a couple of Persian frame drums (DAF) and also to got familiar with some sacred sufi rhythms. Unexpectedly, an ordinary trip to Kurdestan turned to one of the most valuable experience that one can have had in his life. I will talk more about it later.

As I mentioned before, the Ashoora mourning ceremony is a cultural event, which is transferring through the generations for more than 1400 years. I took this one from a group of mourners in Tehran’s Bazaar. To show their deepest sorrow, this group covers their faces and cloths with mud.
In this picture, I enjoyed the way that different generations are felt about this ceremony.

Sorrow of The Player

Ta'zieh or Shabih-Khani is one of the oldest and most authentic traditions of theater in Iran. It is a kind of theater is based on agonizing life stories and fables of Islam's prophet, Muhammad. Essentially, they are the events and atrocities that confront Imam Hossein and his apostles in the Karbala desert during the Muharram of '61 Hijri (Lunar Calendar).
In this theater, all of the players are ordinary people who are not trained to be an actor, but they are very well in singing song about the prophet and his family. One of the casts in this traditional theater should play as a person who killed Imam Hossien, and in my opinion this role is the hardest you can find in the whole program. Although they should act as a cruel person but in most cases they are crying during their play. This is the photo of the person who is playing this role.
صرفنظر از تاريخچه مراسم عزاداري امام حسين، شيوه ورود آن به جامعه ايران و بهره برداري‌هاي سياسي كه از اين واقعه شده است، شبيه‌خواني يا به عبارتي تعزيه هميشه براي من جالب بوده. به ويژه افرادي كه در اين نمايش ايفاي نقش ميكنند. از ميان همه بازيگران تعزيه، كساني كه نقش شمر را بازي مي‌كنند از همه جالبتر و به عقيده من از همه قابل احترام‌تر هستند. كساني كه در نهايت دلسوختگي در نقش آدمي بي‌رحم ظاهر مي‌شوند، نكته جالبتر گريستن شمرخوانها در طول تعزيه است. اين عكس رو از يك شمر خوان در ميدان تجريش گرفتم

In the Islamic calendar, 10th day of the month of Muharram is the day of 'Ashoora, a day of mourning for all feeling Muslims. It is the day on which, in the year of 61 Hijri (680 AD), in a place called Karbala, in Iraq, Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet of Islam, sacrificed his life and the lives of many of his family members and friends, in order to save the teachings of Islam from utter distortion and destruction. From the first day of Muharram until the day of Ashoora, you can see mourning ceremonies in all cities in Iran. I used to take photographs from this event for more than seven years continuously. I took this one in front of my house in Tehran at the night after Ashoore, when people carrying candles and singing songs about Imam Hussain. I had 50mm Nikkor 1.8 on my camera and used ILFOD PAN 400 and pushed the negative to ASA 800. Negative printed on ILFORD paper (grade 3). No tripod used!
حدود هفت سالي مي‌شد كه به‌طور مداوم از مراسم دهه عاشورا عكاسي مي‌كردم. اين عكس رو از مراسم شام غريبان در تهران(به طور مشخص جلوي خونمون در شمرون) گرفتم. براي عكاسي از لنز ٥٠ ميليمتري نيكون (٨/١) و نگاتيو ايلفورد پان ٤٠٠ استفاده كردم وبراي اينكه بتونم روي دست عكاسي كنم نگاتيو رو به ٨٠٠ پوش دادم. بعد از ظهور، نگاتيو را روي كاغذ شماره ٣ ايلفورد چاپ كردم

The Look

I used to work on the geology of the Sistan & Balouchestan coastline for couple of months and had the opportunity to visit one of the greatest places on earth. Despite of the harsh environmental condition of this area, Sistan & Balouchestan is full of surprises and contrasts. It has a very active geology with volcanic belts, faults and uplifting coastline along with the unique geomorphological features. It is the habitat of some unique reptiles, birds and mammals and gives you the opportunity to walk from the barren desert to the blue ocean in less than fifteen minutes. Although the people of this area suffers from the lack of infrastructure and bad economical condition but they are full of hope and hospitality.
I was heading back to my camp in Chabahar when I saw this little girl playing in front of her house. I took the camera and wish she doesn’t run away and let me to shoot some pictures. Since I had my 50 mm lens on my camera, I have to get close and surprisingly she just sat there and watched me. Maybe she was thinking, what the hell he wants from me? Couldn’t he just let me play? I took several shots and then back to the car and took my other camera with 100mm lens and B&W negative. She was still there and let me to shoot some B&Ws. Her eyes had a very strange look; maybe she tried to read my mind or wanted to tell me something. Maybe she was hoping for the bright future and wanted to ask me “Are you the one who tries to make a better future for me?” This was happened ten years ago but I still feel the lightness of her look.
چند ماهي كه روي زمين‌شناسي خط ساحلي استان سيستان و بلوچستان كار مي‌كردم اين فرصت رو به من داد تا از سرزميني بسيار عجيب ديدن كنم. سرزميني پر ازاسرار با مردماني اسرار آميزتر. يك روز كه داشتم به اقامتگاهم در چابهار بر مي‌گشتم از روستاايي عبور كردم و اين دختر را در حال بازي كردن ديدم. دوربينم رو برداشتم و خدا خدا ميكردم تا قبل ازاينكه فرار كنه بتونم ازش چندتايي عكس بگيرم. چون لنز نرمال روي دوربينم بود مجبور بودم خيلي بهش نزديك بشم و در كمال تعجب ديدم كه نه تنها فرار نكرد بلكه همينطور نشسته بود و به من نگاه مي‌كرد. شايد به خودش مي‌گفت اين ديگه از جون من چي مي‌خواد؟ چرا من رو ول نمي‌كنه تا بازيم رو بكنم؟ چندتايي عكس گرفتم و برگشتم توي ماشين و دوربين ديگرم رو كه لنز تله ١٠٠ ميليمتري و نگاتيو سياه و سفيد داشت برداشتم. دخترك هنوز همونجا نشسته بود و با چشماني زيبا و نگاهي عجيب به من ظل زده بود. شايد داشت فكر من رو مي‌خوند يا اينكه مي‌خواست چيزي به من بگه. شايد آرزوي دنيايي بهتر رو مي‌كرد و مي‌خواست از من بپرسه كه ”آيا تو همون كسي هستي كه مي‌خواهي آينده بهتري براي من بسازي؟“ از اون وقت حدود ده سالي ميگذره ولي هنوز بار نگاه اين دختر روي دوشم سنگيني ميكنه

As I told before, I would like to switch to some other topics and decided to start posting some photos from daily life and cultural ceremonies to give you some idea how I look people and their life. I also want to share some of my experiences in Social Documentary Photography (SDP). Usually, the SDP refers to taking photos from the society or in other word; Social Documentary Photography may be defined as the act of recording people in their un-posed daily life. I attracted to SDP because it deals with reality; revealing and making permanent every aspect of human nature. It also helps me to find more about myself and about the community that I live in. This is why I call photography “Art of living”.
In most cases, my DSP ideology involved with long term projects on the specific community so I can get familiar with different aspects of the community and understand the culture. In the early years that I started this type of photography, I was very shy in dealing with people and rather to shoot my pictures using telephoto lenses. After a while I realized that to show the daily life in the way it is, I need to get closer to the people rather than taking shots from long distance, so I switch to 50mm and 35mm lenses and involved myself with each subject. To come over my shyness, I simply hide myself behind the camera and try to look at the people through the visor and this turned me to a person who is too rude in taking pictures. If you have the same problem, just try what I did and I promise you will come over it.
I was taking a bus to my work, when I noticed a man who was sitting in front of me and looking through the window. I can feel that he is deeply thinking about something; even the shutter sound behind his ears couldn’t interrupt him. By focusing on his reflection in the window I tried to put much more emphasis on his look and maybe on what he was thinking.

همانطور كه گفته‌بودم تصميم داشتم تا موضوع عكسها رو عوض كنم و فكر كردم اگر مدتي به عكسهايي كه از مردم، زندگي روزمزه و آداب و رسوم گرفتم بپردازم بد نباشه. همچنين دوست دارم برخي از تجربياتم رو در زمينه عكاسي مستند-اجتماعي با شما در ميان بگذارم. اين نوع عكاسي رو بشه به نوعي ثبت حالت عادي زندگي روزانه مردم تلقي كرد. به عبارت ديگر گرفتن عكس از يك جامعه خاص، با هدفي ويژه و در شرايط عادي و بدون مفدمه. علاقه مندي من به اين نوع عكاسي به دليل واقع‌گرايانه بودن اون و پرداختن به زواياي گوناگون زندگي بشرهستش. به نظر من عكاسي مستند-اجتماعي نه تنها به من كمك ميكنه كه شناختم از جامعه افزايش پيدا كنه بلكه باعث ميشه خودم رو بهتر بشناسم. به همين خاطر كه به عكاسي هنر زندگي كردن ميگن

در بسياري از موارد ديدگاه عكاسي مستند-احتماعي من با پروژه‌هاي طولاني مدت و متمركز بر روي يك گروه اجتماعي خاص متمركز هستش، با اين روش ميتونم با جنبه‌هاي مختلف فرهنگي يك اجتماع آشنا بشم. در سالهاي اول كه تازه اين نوع عكاسي رو شروع كرده بودم از اينكه با مردم روبرو بشم خجالت مي‌كشيدم و به همين دليل با استفاده از لنز تله و از فاصله زياد از مردم عكس مي‌گرفتم. بعداً احساس كردم كه بايد براي اين نوع عكاسي جزئي از مردم بود نه اينكه از دور به آنها نگاه كرد و عكس گرفت، بنابراين لنزهاي تله رو كنار گذاشتم و با لنز نرمال و وايد ٣٥ شروع به عكاسي كردم. براي اينكه بر خجالت كشيدنم هم غلبه كنم خودم رو پشت دوربين پنهان مي‌كردم و از داخل ويزور به مردم نگاه مي‌كردم. اين كار باعث شد تا به يك آدم پر رو در زمينه عكاسي مستند تبديل بشم. اگر شما هم همين مشكل رو داريد اين روش رو امتحان كنيد، خيلي مؤثره
يك روز داشتم با اتوبوس مي‌رفتم به محل كارم كه متوجه مردي شدم كه روي صندلي جلويي من نشسته بود و داشت بيرون رو تماشا مي‌كرد. آنقدر عميق داشت فكر مي‌كرد كه حتي صداي شاتر دوربين هم كه درست از پشت گوشش بلند شد حواسش رو پرت نكرد. با فوكوس كردن روي انعكاس صورت مرد در شيشه اتوبوس سعي كردم روي نگاه و شايد روي آن چيزي كه بهش فكر مي‌كرد تأكيد بيشتري بكنم

Little Black Fish ماهي سياه كوچولو

I am going to switch to some other topics in the coming weeks and this is the last photomicrograph that I am posting for now. Maybe in the future, I continue posting MicroArts. I know you may find this one very different from the others and also you may don’t like it at all. But there is a story behind it which makes this picture very special to me. The black opaque mineral is Iron Oxide (namely Hematite) which the corrosion in its rim made this crystal to look like a small fish. I found this little black fish when I studied some volcanic rocks from Central Iran. This iron crystal suddenly reminds me of the book that my Mom used to read it to me when I was a kid. The book is called “The Little Black Fish” by the famous Persian writer Samad Behrangi. I frequently asked my Mom to read the book for me and each time at the end of the story I cried for the little black fish. This also happened when I start reading the book myself when I was in primary school. You won’t believe this that I start crying in the laboratory first time I saw this mineral under the microscope. اين آخرين عكس ميكروسكپي كه روي وبلاگ مي‌گذارم و درهفته‌هاي آينده مي‌خواهم موضوع عكسها رو تغيير

بدم. شايد در آينده بازهم عكسهاي ميكروسكپي پست كردم. مي‌دونم كه اين عكس با عكسهاي قبلي خيلي تفاوت ميكنه و مطمئن هستم كه خيلي از شماها از اون خوشتون نمياد ولي داستاني كه پشت اين عكس هستش اون رو براي من به يك عكس ويژه تبديل كرده. كاني تيره رنگي كه در تصوير مي‌بينيد يك بلور اكسيد آهن (به طور مشخص، هماتيت) هستش كه برخي از سطوح اون دچار خوردگي شده و به شكل يك ماهي كوچك درآمده. اين ماهي سياه كوچولو رو وقتي پيدا كردم كه داشتم يك سري سنگ آتشفشاني مربوط به ايران مركزي رو مطالعه مي‌كردم. اين بلور من رو به ياد كتابي انداخت كه در بچگي مادرم برام مي‌خوند. كتاب ماهي سياه كوچولو نوشته صمد بهرنگي. يادم مياد كه من دائماً از مادرم مي‌خواستم اين كتاب رو براي من بخونه و هر بار در آخر كتاب من براي ماهي سياه كوچولو گريه ميكردم، اين اتفاق حتي وقتي كه در دوره دبستان خودم كتاب رو مي‌خوندم ميافتاد. باورتون نميشه وقتي اين بلور رو توي آزمايشگاه در زير ميكروسكوپ ديدم بي اختيار زدم زير گريه. اگر دوست داشتيد اين كتاب رو بخونيد اينجا رو كليك كنيد.
